What Will 2016 Bring?

A part of me is glad to say good-bye to 2015.  I'd like nothing more than to have 2016 be magical, but I know that life will happen and it will perhaps be more of the same, but I've planned a few things to jump start 2016.

One question exhausted me throughout year 2015, which was how to continue to improve my life overall.

The question haunted me to the point that I declared that 2016 would be the year that I would exhaustedly seek avenues that would improved by mind, body and soul.

After reading a New York Times' articleRethinking Weight Loss and the Reasons We’re ‘Always Hungry’ I knew I had to start with my BODY first.

The article was an eye-opener.  David Widwig, an obesity expert at Harvard School of Public Health reports that conventional wisdom on weight loss is wrong.  The primary driver of obesity is not an excess of calories as we have thought it to be, but an excess of high glycemic foods.

Always Hungry, the title of his book, he talks about foods that acts as "fertilizer for fat cells."

So, this year,  I am ditching the scale and confront the issues that causes weight gain.

HOLISTIC BEAUTY

I enjoy talking about skincare and beauty.  If you surveyed 100 individuals they would all define beauty differently.  That would be great.  There is no one definition to describe beauty or to achieving it.

Dr. Shirley Madhere's  holistic approach to beauty is helping her patients find their own beauty.  I like this approach because it brings all of the individual front and center.

Read her interview with Lifestyle Mirror.

WELLNESS: Tenaya Lodge Hosts 3rd Annual Yosemite Wellness & Spa Retreat

Tenaya Lodge at Yosemite  hosts the 3rd Yosemite Wellness Retreat January 15-18 2016.

I 'm planning two spa vacations in 2016 and I do believe I've found what I have been looking for.  I am a sucker for lots of pampering. I enjoy the Zen-inspired ambiance at Ascent Spa and it would be nice to preempt the long, cold winter with a little relaxation.

WEEKEND: Feel Good Friday

Getting up at 4 o'clock in the morning can over time make demands on the body that are not so forgiving.  Just bending over sent me into orbit.
Even so, I love getting a few yoga stances in before I hit the shower. This holiday season I’ve plan on doing a little self-gifting and will purchase 100 Yoga Poses by Anna Smith.  Yoga help me increase my flexibility.  I should be doing a little better than I’ve been doing and I plan to do just that.

Having to rise at 4:00 a.m. breakfast is often on the form of a smoothie.
Superfood Smoothies by Julie Morris is my go to book for great recipes.  I don’t make a habit of drinking my breakfast, but when I am in a pinch my Kale, Ginger and Broccoli smoothie does the trick.

Take a moment this weekend to do one thing that will improve your mind or body or both.  Grab your BFF and head to a juice bar, learn new yoga positions or try Reiki, mediation, get that gym membership that you've put off.
Check out this article. If you are going to make change in your life to improve your health what would it be?

Whatever you do this weekend dig a little more to experience a deeper you.
Enjoy your weekend!
